Photographer & Artist
the beauty of shells…
My name is Charlotte Gill and I'm from Devon. Growing up surrounded by the natural beauty of the South West of England as well as spending time in Australia sparked a huge passion for the natural world, predominantly marine life and reptiles. I aim to communicate conservation and scientific messages with my work as well as bringing in an element of artistic flair. Recently I have become particularly interested in fine art and abstract photography, using the shapes and patterns within nature to create images which allow the subject to be perceived in a new light. This is the way I am working in my final major project: a book exploring the beauty of sea shells, using macro and photo microscopy to pull out the details of their texture, colour and form.
My inspiration comes from the people around me. I am constantly looking at aspects of my peers' and lecturers' work which I can apply to my own photography to develop a style that really stands out. I am also inspired by scientists and conservationists, and want to communicate the importance of their work to the rest of the world.
My favourite mediums are stills and moving image as they are so versatile. I have also recently rediscovered my love for drawing and painting, and I hope to develop this to become a part of my photographic work.
